Center for Finance and Insurance, Department of Banking and Finance

About us

For the past decades there has been a clear trend towards the use of economic valuation and economic capital approaches in the insurance industry.
This trend has not only impacted the internal valuation and performance measurement systems but has also left an indelible mark in the development
of the International Accounting Standards and the risk based regulatory solvency regimes.

The Center for Finance and Insurance (CFI) was created in December 2013 to help strengthen the financial foundations on which this trend rests. It does so by promoting research in the application of finance theory and mathematical finance to insurance related issues.

The CFI is also committed to providing basic training in insurance related topics within the regular programs at the Department of Banking and Finance, as well as developing courses for practitioners on capital and risk management.
